Knicks Dodge Questions About Blockbuster Trade with Timberwolves
The New York Knicks are buzzing with rumors of a major trade involving superstar Karl-Anthony Towns, but the team is officially keeping their lips sealed. Even though Towns was spotted at the Knicks training facility wearing a team hat, players and coaches wouldn't confirm anything during media day.
When reporters bombarded star point guard Jalen Brunson with questions about Towns, he jokingly replied, "Who's Karl?" Head coach Tom Thibodeau, who previously coached Towns with the Timberwolves, also politely declined to comment.
Other players like Josh Hart took a more playful approach. He pretended to check with the team's PR department before saying that the "unofficial" person (Towns) seemed like a great fit for the team.
While nobody is officially admitting it, the trade is expected to involve the Knicks sending All-Star Julius Randle and sharpshooter Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota for Towns.
While the potential addition of Towns is exciting, Knicks players are still processing the loss of key teammates. "The news was crazy," said Brunson, expressing his gratitude for Randle and DiVincenzo's contributions and friendships. He highlighted his close relationship with DiVincenzo, who was even a groomsman in his wedding.
Despite losing valuable players, the Knicks are optimistic. They've added Mikal Bridges, a familiar face from Brunson and Hart's Villanova days, and are gaining one of the league's best centers in Towns.
One potential snag in the trade could be DiVincenzo's unhappiness with a potential bench role after his strong performance last season.
The Knicks are in the middle of a major trade shakeup, but they're not spilling the beans just yet. While players are sad to see teammates go, they're excited about the potential of Towns and Bridges joining the team.
